Assam Government Announces Key Administrative Changes in Guwahati

Major Administrative Reshuffle in Assam
Guwahati, June 11: In a notable shift within the administrative framework, the Assam government has appointed Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya, IAS (RR: 2014), as the new Commissioner of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC). Previously, she held the position of Secretary in the Health and Family Welfare Department of Assam.
Dr. Priya takes over from Shri Megha Nidhi Dahal, IAS (RR: 2015), who has been reassigned as the Managing Director of the Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC), as per the notification released by the Department of Personnel (Personnel-A) at the Assam Secretariat.
The government order, issued on June 11, 2025, outlines various significant changes in administrative roles aimed at enhancing public service efficiency.
Other key changes include:
- Shri Rakesh Kumar, IAS (RR: 2005), who served as MD of APDCL and Commissioner & Secretary for the Fishery and Excise Departments, has been relieved of his additional responsibilities as Chairman of APGCL and Secretary of the Fishery Department.
- Shri Manvendra Pratap Singh, IAS (RR: 2012), previously Secretary for the Act East Policy Affairs Department and MD of AIDC (Addl), has been assigned new roles as Secretary for the Fishery Department and Commissioner of Transport, Assam, while being relieved of his additional MD duties.
The official announcement was digitally signed by M S Manivannan, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, Personnel (A) Department, and has been circulated to all relevant departments and offices for implementation.
This reshuffle is timely, as it aims to enhance administrative responsiveness to the challenges faced in public service delivery, particularly in urban governance and industrial growth.
