Assam Floods Leave Thousands Without Power as Recovery Efforts Continue
Power Restoration Efforts Amid Ongoing Flood Crisis

Guwahati, July 30: Approximately 13,000 households in Assam's flood-affected regions remain without electricity, nearly 11 days after a devastating mud-filled flood impacted several districts.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the government is actively monitoring the flood situation in Upper Assam and is making decisions to restore power to affected households.
He noted in a social media update, "The number of consumers without electricity has decreased by another 30 percent. As water levels fall, we are continually evaluating safety conditions and will reinstate more transformers to the grid wherever feasible."
A report from the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) indicated that 12,756 consumers in the Sivasagar electrical circle are still without power.
The areas impacted include Gaurisagar, Sivasagar, Nazira, Amguri, and Demow.
On July 24, Sarma mentioned that around 40,000 households were without electricity, although power had been restored to 75 percent of connections.
Severe rainfall in Nagaland and Upper Assam caused significant damage in three districts starting early on July 19.
Despite water levels receding in many areas, the flood situation in Assam remains dire, with the death toll reaching 78 and over 300,000 individuals still affected.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms in isolated areas of Assam and neighboring Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland over the next three days, raising concerns for districts near these states.
