Assam Exit Polls Indicate Strong Lead for BJP Alliance

Recent exit polls suggest a significant victory for the BJP-led NDA in Assam, projecting a strong mandate in the upcoming elections. While the BJP is expected to secure a majority, other states show mixed results. In West Bengal, projections are divided, with some favoring the ruling TMC and others indicating a potential BJP majority. Guwahati, April 29: Recent exit polls released on Wednesday suggest a significant victory for the BJP-led NDA in Assam, while showing mixed results in other states preparing for elections.

In Assam, various pollsters have indicated a strong mandate for the current ruling coalition in the 126-member Assembly.

According to Axis My India, the BJP and its allies are expected to secure between 88 and 100 seats, surpassing the majority threshold of 64, while the Congress-led coalition is projected to gain 24 to 36 seats.

People’s Pulse estimates the NDA will win between 68 and 72 seats, with the opposition receiving 22 to 26 seats.

Matrize also forecasts a robust performance for the ruling alliance, predicting 85 to 95 seats for the NDA and 25 to 32 for Congress and its partners.

The projections indicate that the BJP is likely to maintain its hold on power in Assam, supported by a high voter turnout of 85.38% recorded during the single-phase polling on April 9.

However, given the historical inaccuracies of exit polls, the true results will only be confirmed on counting day.

Looking beyond Assam, the exit polls reveal diverse political trends in other states. In West Bengal, projections are split.

While People’s Pulse suggests a lead for the ruling TMC with 177 to 187 seats compared to BJP’s 95 to 110, Matrize and P-Marq predict a potential majority for the BJP in the 294-member Assembly.

In Kerala, most surveys indicate a likely comeback for the Congress-led UDF after a decade in opposition. Axis My India forecasts 78 to 90 seats for the UDF and 49 to 62 for the ruling LDF, with other polls also favoring the opposition alliance.

Tamil Nadu is anticipated to see the DMK-led coalition retain its position. People’s Pulse estimates 125 to 145 seats for the DMK bloc, while Matrize predicts 122 to 132 seats. The AIADMK-BJP alliance is expected to lag behind, with actor Vijay’s TVK emerging as a minor contender.

In Puducherry, Axis My India forecasts a return of the NDA government with 16 to 20 seats in the 30-member Assembly, while the DMK-Congress alliance may secure 6 to 8 seats.

Polling in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu was conducted in a single phase, while West Bengal held its elections in two phases on April 23 and 29. Several states reported high voter turnouts, with Puducherry at 89.83% and Tamil Nadu at 84.69%, while West Bengal recorded an impressive 91.78% turnout in its first phase.

The counting of votes for all five states—Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry—is set for May 4.
