In the latest updates from the Assam elections, the ruling NDA coalition is currently leading in 87 out of 126 seats, while the Congress party is ahead in 21 constituencies, as reported by the Election Commission.
The EC has provided trends for 114 constituencies, revealing that the BJP is leading in 71 seats, with its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF), leading in seven and nine seats, respectively.
The Congress party is showing strength in 21 seats, with its allies, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal, each leading in one seat.
Additionally, the AIUDF is leading in two constituencies, while the CPI(M) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha are ahead in one seat each.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading in the Jalukbari constituency, whereas Gaurav Gogoi, the state Congress president, is trailing behind his BJP opponent Hitendranath Goswami in Jorhat.
AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi is ahead in Khowang, and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi is leading in Sibsagar, a seat he previously held as an Independent.
Key figures from the NDA, including AGP president Atul Bora and working president Keshab Mahanta, are leading in Bokakhat and Kaliabor, respectively.
Former Congress leaders Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Borah, who switched to the BJP before the elections, are leading in Dispur and Bihpuria.
Ministers Ranoj Pegu, Pijush Hazarika, Ashok Singhal, Prashanta Phukan, and Bimal Borah have also established leads in their respective constituencies.
The BPF, an NDA ally, is leading in three constituencies as well.
Vote counting commenced at 8 AM, starting with postal ballots.
Trends for other parties are still pending.
Counting is taking place at 40 centers across all 35 districts, with most districts having a single center for all constituencies. However, Nagaon district has three separate centers, while Kokrajhar, Tinsukia, and Jorhat each have two.
The polling for all 126 assembly constituencies occurred in a single phase on April 9, with an impressive turnout of 85.96% from the 2.5 crore registered voters.
