Assam Congress Intensifies Efforts for 2026 Assembly Elections with Grassroots Engagement
Guwahati's Political Landscape Shifts
Guwahati, Jan 5: In preparation for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, the Assam Congress is ramping up its initiatives by launching a comprehensive outreach program aimed at creating a manifesto that reflects the voices of the people rather than top-down directives.
To facilitate public input, senior leaders from the party are visiting various districts to engage directly with citizens, civil society organizations, and local groups through a campaign named “Raijor Padulit Raijor Congress”.
On Monday, Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led the initiative in Charaideo district, where he interacted with representatives from multiple political factions and organizations before conducting discussions with party members.
Simultaneously, in Bongaigaon district, Congress MP Rakibul Hussain took charge of gathering feedback for the manifesto, supported by MLA Abdul Batin Khandakar and senior leader Ashok Sharma.
A different team, led by former APCC president Bhupen Bora, is set to visit Baksa district on Tuesday to further extend the campaign's reach.
During a press conference, Election Manifesto Committee chairman and MP Pradyut Bordoloi remarked on the overwhelming response to the campaign, noting that citizens have been open and engaged with party representatives.
“Our goal is to avoid crafting a manifesto from the confines of Rajiv Bhavan filled with empty promises. We are here to listen to the people's thoughts,” Bordoloi stated.
He emphasized that the manifesto would not be created in Delhi or through closed discussions.
“Our manifesto will not be dictated from Delhi. To accurately represent the desires of Assam, we are engaging with the public directly. This manifesto will be crafted by the people and for the people,” he added.
The outreach campaign, which commenced in phases on December 6, is now approaching its final stage, with the concluding events scheduled in Guwahati on January 10 and 11.
Throughout this initiative, Congress teams have connected with over 1,000 organizations statewide, encompassing a diverse array of social, professional, and community groups.
In Nagaon district, similar activities were observed, where a team led by former MP Ripun Bora participated in the campaign and gathered public feedback.
The delegation included MLA Nurul Huda, Mahila Congress president Mira Borthakur, district Congress president Etowa Munda, and other representatives who engaged with local organizations and community groups.
As the “Raijor Padulit Raijor Congress” campaign nears its conclusion, the Assam Congress is positioning its 2026 manifesto as a document that truly reflects grassroots sentiments.
