Guwahati, Sept 19: On Saturday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in a statewide blood donation initiative as Assam celebrated 'Zubeen Divas,' honoring the late artist with music, tributes, and community service, marking one year since his passing.
Sarma donated blood at Vajpayee Bhawan, the BJP's headquarters in Guwahati, as part of a campaign organized by the ruling party to commemorate the occasion.
“Today marks the first anniversary of our beloved Zubeen Garg's passing. The BJP and its members are observing this day by donating blood. My colleagues and I donated blood at the BJP headquarters, while similar camps have been set up throughout the state,” Sarma stated.
He noted that approximately 3,800 individuals had signed up to donate blood at various camps statewide, with around 1,000 donors already contributing.
Sarma expressed gratitude to BJP workers and state president Dilip Saikia for spearheading the initiative. “People are commemorating the day through various programs,” he added.
The Chief Minister reminisced about his connection with Garg and the bond the artist had with the people of Assam.
“During his lifetime, we shared wonderful moments with him. He envisioned a better Assam, and the people will always cherish his memory,” Sarma remarked.
He emphasized that Garg's legacy transcended music, highlighting his cultural and social contributions as vital aspects of his remembrance.
“We should honor Zubeen Garg not just for his music but for the cultural and social guidance he provided. He was a person who truly cared for the people of Assam,” he stated.
Sarma also mentioned the rise of 'Zubeen Divas' as a public observance, clarifying that it was not a government initiative.
“This observance has been created by the people, and when the community initiates something, the government follows suit. Wherever the people lead, the government will accompany them,” he affirmed.
The sentiment of remembrance was palpable across the state as fans gathered at Zubeen Kshetra in Kamarkuchi on Saturday morning, marking the third and final day of 'Zubeen Divas' celebrations.
A year after his death, Garg's influence remained strong, reflected in the songs sung, memories shared, and events held in his honor.
