Progress Review of Welfare Initiatives

Tamulpur, July 4: On Friday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted a review of various flagship welfare programs in the Tamulpur district, emphasizing the government's dedication to inclusive development and the empowerment of women in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

During his visit to the newly established Tamulpur district, the Chief Minister held an extensive meeting to assess the execution of significant schemes such as Orunodoi 3.0, the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan (CMAAA), the Eti Koli Duti Paat initiative aimed at tea garden workers, and the distribution of ration cards.

Sarma pointed out the positive changes brought about by these initiatives, stating, “Although Tamulpur is a new district, it has made impressive strides in welfare services. Currently, 20,000 women benefit from the Orunodoi scheme, and with effective implementation, this number could rise to 60,000, marking a threefold increase. Additionally, over 35,000 women in Tamulpur and 33,000 in Goreswar will gain empowerment through the Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan.”

The Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring that benefits are delivered efficiently and transparently. “Our goal is for every eligible beneficiary to receive their rightful benefits without any discrepancies. We aim to foster financial inclusion and empower our women and youth,” he stated.

Sarma also provided updates on the CMAAA scheme, noting that 391 youths have received the first installment of ₹1 lakh each, with plans for a second installment. An additional 1,200 youths in Tamulpur are expected to benefit soon, and 60 beneficiaries have already accessed Mudra Loans.

“We aspire to empower our youth to become self-sufficient. The success of these schemes indicates the determination of Tamulpur's residents to progress,” Sarma remarked.

In response to the needs of tea garden workers, the Chief Minister announced that approximately 2,500 workers from two tea gardens will receive ₹5,000 each under the Eti Koli Duti Paat initiative. Furthermore, around 8,000 individuals across Tamulpur and Goreswar constituencies will be provided with ration cards to enhance food security.

Commending the district's overall achievements, Sarma noted, “Tamulpur has surpassed expectations. For instance, the district's rice procurement target was set at 7,000 metric tonnes, yet it achieved 9,000 metric tonnes. The medical college is nearing completion, and the district court is set to commence operations within this year.”

Sarma also highlighted the government's vision for peace and development in the BTR region, stating, “Over the past five years, we have established peace in BTR. In the next five years, our focus will shift to development. The BJP is not here to govern BTAD but to facilitate its growth. Beyond political interests, we aim to collaborate with BTC leaders for the welfare of our communities,” he expressed.

He added that while the BJP and UPPL (United People’s Party Liberal) will participate in the Parishad elections separately, both parties will continue to collaborate for the region's comprehensive development.

Accompanied by senior leaders including Dilip Saikia, Pramod Boro, Jayanta Malla Baruah, and other MLAs, the Chief Minister concluded, “Tamulpur has demonstrated that even as a new district, it can serve as a model for the entire BTR. If we unite our efforts, peace and development will progress together.”
