Wealth Growth of Assam's Chief Minister


The total wealth of Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, along with his spouse Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, has risen to Rs 35.16 crore in 2026, a significant increase from Rs 17.27 crore reported in 2021, as per the affidavit submitted by the BJP leader.


Sarma filed this affidavit alongside his nomination for the Jalukbari constituency in the forthcoming Assembly elections, which are set to occur on April 9, with results expected on May 4.


Back in 2016, the family's wealth was recorded at approximately Rs 6.4 crore.


In the latest affidavit, the Chief Minister indicated that his movable assets are valued at Rs 2.36 crore in 2026, up from Rs 1.72 crore in 2021.


Conversely, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma's assets, both movable and immovable, have grown to Rs 32.79 crore in 2026 from Rs 16.19 crore.


For the financial year 2024-2025, Himanta Biswa Sarma reported an income of Rs 29,62,920, while his wife's income was Rs 4,19,25,000.


The Chief Minister disclosed that he has no investments in bonds, shares, or mutual funds, whereas his wife has investments totaling Rs 5.10 crore and a life insurance policy worth Rs 1.77 crore.


In terms of cash, Himanta Biswa Sarma has Rs 2.28 lakh and four bank deposits amounting to Rs 68,01,943. His wife holds Rs 3.16 lakh in cash and bank deposits totaling Rs 74,85,248.


Regarding liabilities, Sarma has declared Rs 95 lakh in loans, while his wife's liabilities amount to Rs 15.91 crore.


According to the affidavit, neither the Chief Minister nor his wife owns agricultural land. However, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma possesses three non-agricultural properties, two of which were purchased and one inherited, with a combined market value of Rs 19.25 crore.
