Guwahati, May 30: The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, commenced a four-day trip to the national capital on Saturday, starting with a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in New Delhi.
This marks Sarma's first formal engagement with the Prime Minister since he began his second consecutive term.
The discussions focused on the initial achievements and key objectives of the newly established NDA 3.0 government in Assam.
After the meeting, Sarma took to social media to share that he had updated Modi on the government's progress, expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister's unwavering support, and requested his continued guidance in the future.
This meeting is one of several planned during Sarma's time in Delhi, where he is also expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu and other Union Ministers in the upcoming days.
The timing of this visit is politically significant, following the ruling party's decisive win in the state Assembly elections.
However, much of the focus is on the anticipated cabinet expansion in Assam.
While four ministers were sworn in on May 12 as part of the new cabinet, the complete formation is still underway.
Sarma has made several trips to the national capital in preparation for this expansion, which is anticipated to occur in the second week of June.
In a press conference on May 27, the Chief Minister indicated that the process would be gradual, influenced by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya's prior commitments.
"Before June 3 it may not be possible because the Governor will be in Mongolia for an official visit," Sarma stated.
Currently, Governor Acharya is leading an Indian delegation on a ten-day sacred mission to Mongolia, carrying the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha's two main disciples, Arhant Sariputra and Arhant Maudgalyayana, for a special exposition, making his return essential for the swearing-in ceremony to proceed.
As the Delhi visit aims to set the stage for both political and administrative priorities, all eyes will be on Assam's cabinet once the Governor returns home.
