Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Labels Congress Spokesperson as a Fugitive Amid Passport Controversy
Sarma's Strong Response to Allegations
On Thursday, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, criticized Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, labeling him a fugitive. This remark followed Khera's accusations against Sarma amid an ongoing passport controversy. Sarma questioned the existence of the Congress party, stating, "What Congress party? I have never even heard of it. Who is Pawan Khera? He is a 'fugitive.' Why should I respond to him?"
New Allegations and Video Evidence
These comments emerged after Khera made fresh allegations regarding the passport issue. On Wednesday, the Congress party shared a self-made video by Khera from an undisclosed location on social media, where he accused Sarma of corruption. The party challenged the Chief Minister, urging him to respond if he had the courage. In the video, Khera criticized police actions against him and demanded answers to his questions, asserting that he would not be intimidated.
Congress Claims and Police Action
The Congress party also asserted that Sarma's wife possesses three passports and revealed that Assam police conducted a search at Khera's residence in Delhi. This search was initiated following a First Information Report (FIR) filed by Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, on Monday. During a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma vowed to take strict action against Khera, stating, "I will take strong measures against Congress leader Pawan Khera. Just wait a few days. We will win at least 100 seats in the elections."
Sarma Denies Allegations and Responds
Sarma dismissed the Congress allegations, claiming that documents linking his family to an apartment in Dubai were stolen from a platform called Scribd. He declared the Congress party as finished in the state and reiterated claims of Pakistani connections involving Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan Khera in the passport case related to his wife.
