Silchar, April 3: Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ramped up the BJP's campaign across Barak Valley, urging constituents to dismiss both Congress and independent candidates to promote what he describes as 'uninterrupted development' in the area.

During his speeches in Dholai, Katigorah, and Borkhola on Friday, Sarma emphasized that each vote cast for the BJP would reinforce the leadership at both the state and national levels.

He stated, 'Every vote for BJP will empower me and Narendra Modi to serve the people of Barak Valley,' while warning that a divided vote could hinder developmental progress.

Central to his campaign is a renewed commitment to job creation, with Sarma pledging to generate two lakh jobs if re-elected, building on the previous promise of one lakh jobs already fulfilled.

He detailed a structured plan to distribute approximately 25,000 positions in police and commando units, 75,000 teaching roles, and additional jobs across Grade III, Grade IV, and technical fields.

Notably, he announced a special recruitment initiative for Bengali and Hindi medium schools to address the persistent shortage of teachers in the linguistically diverse Barak Valley.

Linking welfare initiatives to economic advancement, the Chief Minister assured that the government would cover higher education costs for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, a move that resonated well with young voters and their families.

The second focus of the BJP's outreach involves administrative reforms and infrastructure development. Sarma revealed plans to elevate Katigorah to co-district status by August 15 and to grant municipal status to Kalain.

In Dholai, he reiterated intentions to upgrade the Silchar–Dholai–Hailakandi road to National Highway status with support from the Central government, emphasizing connectivity as a crucial factor for regional economic growth.

In Borkhola, Sarma combined promises of development with pointed political critiques, vowing to construct a bridge at Rajnagar, a stadium, and a college in the Tapang area, along with financial aid for the historic Barambaba temple. He accused the constituency of stagnation due to Congress representation from 2021 to 2025.

Throughout his addresses, Sarma consistently cautioned against vote splitting, particularly targeting independent candidates. 'If votes are divided, it will favor Congress,' he asserted, making electoral unity a key theme of his campaign.

With elections set for April 9, Barak Valley is experiencing a fiercely competitive political landscape.
