Guwahati, Nov 1: On Sunday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a fierce critique of the Congress party while participating in a march titled “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao” (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
During his speech, Sarma defended the Election Commission of India's efforts to revise electoral rolls, claiming that Congress is opposing the removal of illegal immigrants from voter lists.
“Rahul Gandhi is upset due to the exclusion of illegal immigrants during the SIR process. He is merely acting to shield the intruders, but the citizens of India will not permit such names on the electoral rolls. We fully support the Election Commission of India and the populace,” Sarma stated.
He emphasized the necessity of SIR in states like Assam and West Bengal, asserting, “The Supreme Court and everyone else acknowledges the issue of illegal immigration in these regions. How can we eliminate the names of illegal immigrants without SIR? We require SIR to remove names associated with historical figures like Babur and Aurangzeb.”
Addressing Congress's claims of electoral misconduct, Sarma remarked, “It’s acceptable in areas where Congress governs, but in BJP-led regions, there are allegations of ‘vote theft’?”
He accused the Opposition of defending individuals who have illegally entered India. In a personal jab at Rahul Gandhi, Sarma remarked, “Rahul has lost his senses and may end up in a mental institution.”
“My advice to Rahul Gandhi is to leave India for good, as he has no hope of finding a place in the Vidhan Sabha or Lok Sabha,” he added.
In a series of posts on social media, Sarma also criticized Congress for organizing a rally in Delhi on November 1, which coincided with the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
“Holding such a rally today is akin to adding insult to injury for the Sikh community,” he stated, calling on Opposition leaders to apologize and observe a moment of silence for the victims.
“You could have chosen any other day for this rally, but perhaps insensitivity towards Sikhs is ingrained in your nature,” Sarma alleged, recalling that over 3,000 Sikhs were killed during the riots that followed the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi’s father and his associates.
“Apologize once, and then proceed with your agenda,” he urged.
In another post, Sarma referenced the 1946 Congress presidential election, claiming that 12 out of 15 Provincial Congress Committees supported Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, while none nominated Jawaharlal Nehru.
Despite Patel's significant backing, Sarma alleged that he was coerced into withdrawing his candidacy, allowing Nehru to ascend as Congress president and later as India’s first Prime Minister.
“Today, Nehru’s great-grandson lectures the nation on ‘Vote Chori’. What a contradiction! Shame!” Sarma expressed.
A similar protest rally took place in Morigaon, led by Nagaon MP Devasish Sharma, Jagiroad MLA Pijush Hazarika, and Dilip Saikia.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, thousands gathered at Ramlila Maidan for a rally organized by the INDIA bloc, protesting alleged electoral irregularities and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
