New Delhi, June 3: During his fourth day in New Delhi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in discussions with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan regarding the advancement of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati's permanent campus.

The meeting took place at Pradhan's official residence and aimed to finalize the details of the new campus, which the Assam government views as crucial for establishing the state as a prominent educational center in eastern India.

In a social media update, Sarma highlighted the state's ongoing efforts to attract top-tier educational institutions and develop world-class academic facilities.

“Assam is on track to become the educational hub of East India, and we are striving to bring the best institutions here. I had a productive meeting with Hon’ble Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan Ji to finalize the IIM-Guwahati campus details. I appreciate his unwavering support for enhancing education infrastructure in Assam,” he shared.

Pradhan, in a separate statement, referred to the proposed permanent campus of IIM Guwahati as a “futuristic” institution that is set to become a key center for academic excellence, research, and innovation.

He emphasized that the institute would foster new opportunities for talent development, knowledge generation, and leadership throughout the Northeast.

The establishment of this institute is anticipated to significantly enhance management education, research, and skill development in the region, further solidifying Assam's status as an emerging educational destination.

IIM Guwahati will be the second Indian Institute of Management in the Northeast, following the Indian Institute of Management Shillong.

Previously, Sarma announced that academic activities would commence from a temporary campus, while the permanent facility is set to be constructed at Marabhita near Palasbari in the Kamrup district.

Currently, IIM Guwahati operates from a temporary site in Bongora, Kamrup district, and is being mentored by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. More information regarding infrastructure planning and implementation timelines is expected in the upcoming months.

The Union Minister also described the meeting as fruitful, noting that discussions included enhancing educational infrastructure under Samagra Shiksha, executing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and strategies to improve learning outcomes.

Sarma expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for his ongoing support in expanding educational opportunities and bolstering infrastructure in Assam.
