Assam CM Denies Congress Allegations Regarding Wife's Passports
Chief Minister Responds to Allegations
On Sunday, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, dismissed claims made by the Congress party regarding his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, allegedly holding passports from three different nations. He labeled these accusations as 'malicious, fabricated, and politically motivated'.
Sarma announced plans to take legal action against Congress leader Pawan Khera, who asserted during a press conference that he possessed documents indicating that Riniki holds passports from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda.
Khera alleged, 'There are three passports... there could be more, we are not sure.'
In a social media update, the Chief Minister stated that the documents being circulated contained 'multiple glaring inconsistencies, indicating a poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation'.

The documents being circulated show multiple glaring inconsistencies, suggesting a crude and poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation:
1️⃣ Surname mismatch — “SARMA” used instead of the official “SHARMA”

Sarma pointed out discrepancies in the spelling of his wife's surname, as well as inconsistencies in passport numbers and expiration dates among the three passports presented by Congress.
'These inconsistencies strongly suggest possible fabrication or digital manipulation,' Sarma remarked. 'The truth will come out, and those spreading falsehoods will face consequences.'
In another social media post, he mentioned, 'My wife and I will initiate both criminal and civil defamation lawsuits within the next 48 hours.'
Sarma emphasized that Khera would be 'held fully accountable for his reckless and defamatory remarks.'
Riniki Bhuyan Sarma also condemned Khera for distributing 'poorly fabricated images of fictitious passports and documents.'
These statements were made in the lead-up to the Assam Assembly elections set for April 9, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
