Assam CM Confident of BJP Victory in West Bengal Elections
BJP's Promising Outlook for Upcoming Elections
On Thursday, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, expressed strong confidence in the BJP's success in the forthcoming West Bengal assembly elections. He accused the TMC government of allowing illegal immigrants to enter the state. Speaking to the media after attending a public gathering, Sarma emphasized the necessity of erecting fences along the borders to prevent Bangladeshi infiltrators from entering the country.
Assam and West Bengal Seat Predictions
Sarma projected that the BJP would secure 100 seats in Assam and 200 in West Bengal. He questioned, "Why should we allow Bangladeshis to enter our country? Mamata Banerjee does not prevent them from coming in. It is crucial to build fences at the border."
Allegations Against Mamata Banerjee
Additionally, he targeted West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding alleged cow smuggling in the state, asserting that the BJP would put an end to such practices once in power. He noted that there has never been a ban on meat in BJP-ruled states, highlighting that animal sacrifices occur daily at Kamakhya Temple without any restrictions on meat consumption in Assam.
Mamata Banerjee's Response
In response, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of attempting to undermine Bengal's identity and constitutional rights. She mentioned spending 'Poila Boishakh' with the people of West Bengal, reaffirming her commitment to serving the state.
Cultural Concerns Raised by Banerjee
In a post on social media, Banerjee further alleged that residents of Bengal are facing "suffering and humiliation" in BJP-ruled states. She claimed that efforts are being made to erase Bengal's culture and diversity, expressing sorrow over the BJP's actions, which she described as 'anti-Bengali'. She highlighted that the BJP is questioning their existence and threatening their constitutional rights, while imposing uniformity over their language, culture, and culinary practices.
