Alliance-Driven Development in BTR

Chirang/Bijni, Mar 28: Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the necessity of collaboration between the BJP and BPF for the advancement of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). He stated that true progress can only be achieved when these two parties work together.

During an election rally at Ulubari in Bijni, part of his 'Vijay Sankalp Yatra' supporting BJP candidate Arup Kumar Dey, Sarma remarked, “Development in BTR will only happen if the BJP and BPF unite. Other parties in the alliance will not be able to contribute effectively.”

He noted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the region currently includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), clarifying that the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) is now contesting independently.

Sarma reiterated the importance of cooperation between the BJP and BPF for fostering development and stability in BTR, while also predicting that the Opposition would secure only 20–25 seats in the Assembly.

At the rally, he addressed the women attendees, announcing new welfare initiatives, including the distribution of new ration cards and the inclusion of 10,000 women in the Orunodoi scheme, each set to receive Rs 9,000.

Regarding AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi's support for AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, Sarma stated he was unaware of the situation.

BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary, present at the event, called on voters to provide a unified mandate from the region, emphasizing the need for collective representation in Dispur.

“We must ensure that 15 MLAs are sent from the alliance in BTR to Dispur,” Mohilary urged, stressing the importance of inclusive development for all communities, including Muslims, Bengalis, Garos, Rabhas, and Rajbongshis.

He also accused opposing candidates of misleading the electorate.

As Sarma moved towards Tamulpur from Bijni, he announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would be campaigning in the region soon.

With the UPPL running independently and the NDA promoting the BJP-BPF alliance as essential for development, the BTR is gearing up for a closely monitored electoral battle as the campaign nears its conclusion.
