Major Development Initiatives in Barak Valley
Cachar, March 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate significant development projects in Silchar this Saturday. Following this, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will carry on with a series of inaugurations and foundation-laying events throughout the Barak Valley.
On Thursday, Assam Cabinet Minister Kaushik Rai informed the media that the Chief Minister's busy agenda will commence right after the Prime Minister's event in Silchar.
The first event on the agenda is the inauguration of the highly anticipated Barak Valley Secretariat at Srikona, set to take place around 12:30 pm.
Rai noted, “The establishment of the Barak Valley Secretariat has been a long-standing aspiration of the local populace. Its opening will greatly enhance administrative efficiency and bring governance closer to the residents of Barak Valley.”
After the Srikona event, the Chief Minister will head to Hailakandi to inaugurate a newly built Circuit House, aimed at improving accommodation and logistical support for visiting officials and dignitaries.
Additionally, Rai mentioned that Sarma will lay foundation stones and inaugurate various other development projects throughout the Barak Valley as part of the state government's initiative to enhance infrastructure in the area.
In the evening, the Chief Minister will also inaugurate the newly constructed District Convention Centre at Silcoorie, which is equipped with modern facilities and is expected to host official events, conferences, and cultural activities.
“The development of such infrastructure will significantly enhance administrative functions and public events in the region,” Rai remarked.
Earlier that day, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation for three major projects: the Panchgram–Barapani high-speed expressway, the Silchar flyover, and the Barak Valley’s inaugural Agriculture College at Patharkandi, in addition to inaugurating railway electrification works on the Badarpur–Silchar and Badarpur–Churaibari routes.
Rai further highlighted that this series of events underscores the government's ongoing commitment to accelerating development efforts and bolstering infrastructure throughout the Barak Valley.
