Assam Chief Minister Reports Arrests Linked to Anti-National Activities
Recent Arrests in Assam Following Terror Attack
On Monday, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, announced that three additional individuals have been apprehended in connection with alleged 'anti-national' activities following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. This brings the total number of arrests related to such cases in the state to 71.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sarma revealed that one person each was arrested from the districts of Kokrajhar, Goalpara, and South Salmara-Mankachar.
He stated, 'A total of 71 traitors are now behind bars! The Assam police are closely monitoring digital platforms.'
Previously, Aminul Islam, a legislator from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), was reportedly arrested for allegedly defending Pakistan and his involvement in the Pahalgam attack under charges of treason.
After being granted bail, Islam was subsequently detained under the National Security Act (NSA). Following the terrorist incident in Pahalgam last month, Sarma had warned on May 2 of strict action against those chanting pro-Pakistan slogans.
