Assam Chief Minister Promises Free Essentials for Ration Card Holders Ahead of Elections
Free Essentials for Ration Card Holders
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, has pledged that if the BJP secures a third consecutive term, ration card holders will receive free sugar, lentils, and salt. This commitment further enhances the state government's welfare initiatives ahead of the elections. While addressing an official rally in Dhemaji, Sarma announced that starting in January, ration card holders will be able to obtain one kilogram each of lentils, sugar, and salt for just 100 rupees.
Election Promises and Government Support
Sarma urged the public to support the BJP-led government in the upcoming elections, assuring them that they would receive lentils, sugar, and salt at no cost delivered to their homes. This announcement comes as the assembly elections are expected to take place in March-April. The BJP has been in power since 2016. Additionally, Sarma mentioned that he has met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss seat-sharing agreements among the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners for the forthcoming assembly elections.
Seat-Sharing Discussions with NDA Partners
During an official event, Sarma informed reporters that the BJP aims to finalize seat-sharing arrangements with the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and other smaller NDA allies by February 15. Last month, he indicated that the coalition with existing NDA partners would likely be completed by January 15. He stated, "Details regarding our seat-sharing and other coalition matters will be finalized by February 15. I met with the Union Home Minister last night to discuss this, and BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary was also present during the meeting."
Continued Discussions with AGP
Before this meeting, UPPPL president Pramod Boro had also met with Shah. Sarma traveled to Delhi via a special flight on Tuesday and returned the following morning. He added, "I had an extensive conversation with AGP president Atul Bora yesterday. Our discussions are ongoing, and we will amicably reach an agreement on the seat-sharing arrangement without any issues."
