Guwahati, Aug 2: On Sunday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called upon the citizens of the state to engage in the online self-enumeration process for the upcoming Census 2027, emphasizing the importance of accurate data submission.
After completing his own online self-enumeration, Sarma encouraged residents to take their civic duty seriously by participating in this nationwide initiative.
In a social media update, he stated, "Good morning Assam! Today marks the start of online self-enumeration for #Census2027 in Assam, allowing you to fill in your details from the comfort of your home. I just completed mine; I urge everyone to accurately provide their information and participate in this exercise."
The Directorate of Census Operations in Assam has initiated the online self-enumeration feature, available from August 2 to August 16 via the dedicated portal, se.census.gov.in.
This portal enables residents to enter their household and individual information online ahead of the House Listing and Housing Census Operations (HLO), which are set to take place from August 17 to September 15.
According to Biswajit Pegu, the Director of Census Operations in Assam, this self-enumeration initiative is a significant move towards making Census 2027 more inclusive, citizen-focused, and user-friendly.
Individuals who complete the online process will receive a unique 11-digit Self-Enumeration (SE) ID via SMS or email, which they must keep safe and present to the census enumerator during the field verification phase.
The portal will be accessible daily from 6 am to midnight and supports Assamese, English, and 14 other Indian languages.
Pegu urged the public to fully utilize the 15-day online period and actively engage in the census process. During the house-listing phase, trained enumerators will visit homes to collect or verify the information submitted online.
He also assured that all data gathered during the Census is safeguarded under the Census Act of 1948, providing legal protection for individual information.
However, due to ongoing flood conditions, the online self-enumeration process and related training in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts have been postponed, with new dates to be announced later.
The Directorate reminded citizens that failing to answer census questions truthfully, obstructing census officials, or providing false information is punishable under the Census Act of 1948.
