International Yoga Day Observed in Assam


Guwahati, June 21: The state of Assam marked International Yoga Day on Saturday, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spearheading the celebrations in Baksa district.


During his address prior to the yoga session, the Chief Minister emphasized that yoga is a priceless aspect of India's cultural heritage.


He referred to yoga as India's contribution to the world, stating, “Yoga is integral to Indian civilization. Its significance is now acknowledged globally. The world has come to recognize the immense benefits of yoga, which has seamlessly integrated into our contemporary lives.”


After the yoga event, the Chief Minister commended the widespread participation from the public throughout the state.


“The citizens of Assam have demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, with participation from individuals of all ages. This reflects the spirit of Janbhagidari,” he remarked during a press briefing on Saturday.


In addition to the Chief Minister, numerous senior officials and representatives took part in Yoga Day events across various districts.


Celebrations Across Districts

Kokrajahar


Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary praised the District Administration's efforts and expressed his joy in participating in the Yoga Day festivities.


Highlighting this year's theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” he underscored yoga's importance in fostering a healthier and more harmonious community. “Good health is paramount. When health is prioritized, everything else falls into place,” he stated.


Jorhat


State Cabinet Minister Atul Bora took part in the Yoga Day celebrations in Jorhat.


Post-event, Bora pointed out yoga's significance in addressing mental health issues.


“Future generations will encounter various challenges that may impact their mental well-being. Regular yoga practice is the best approach to manage these challenges. Incorporating yoga into our daily morning routines will greatly benefit society,” he asserted.


Sivasagar


Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita noted that leaders, ambassadors, and citizens worldwide participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations.


He recalled that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea of International Yoga Day at the United Nations in 2014, it was ratified by 177 countries, marking a significant achievement. “This reflects the global acceptance of yoga,” Margherita added.


Biswanath


Health Minister Ashok Singhal joined the Yoga Day celebrations in Biswanath, encouraging individuals to integrate yoga into their daily routines for a healthier society.


“Lifestyle diseases like hypertension and diabetes can be managed with medication but not completely cured. However, practices such as yoga, physical activity, and even simple habits like walking can lead to positive lifestyle changes,” Singhal emphasized.
