BJP's Campaign Strategy in West Bengal
In preparation for the upcoming assembly elections, a 50-member delegation from the Assam BJP arrived in West Bengal on April 16. The elections are scheduled to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The Assam team aims to conduct an extensive campaign across various constituencies in West Bengal.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already reached West Bengal and is set to address three large public meetings in the assembly constituencies of Cooch Behar, Kalchini, and Phansidewa on the same day.
Several prominent leaders, including Cabinet Ministers Piyush Hazarika, Jayanta Mallabarua, Ranjit Kumar Das, Bimal Bora, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Rupesh Gowala, Kripanath Mollah, Rajdeep Roy, Krishnaendu Paul, Kaushik Roy, MP Parimal Suklabaidya, along with various MLAs and senior state leaders, are deployed to lead the election campaign in different constituencies. Given the broader context of assembly elections across four states and one Union Territory, the elections in West Bengal are particularly significant for the BJP.
Numerous national and regional media outlets have indicated a strong preference for the NDA in Assam and a growing support for the BJP in West Bengal. A three-day special session of Parliament commenced on April 16, during which three key bills are set to be introduced: the One Nation, One Election bill, the delimitation of constituencies nationwide, and the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which reserves seats for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
Party spokesperson Pranjal Kalita stated in an official release that the "One Nation, One Election" bill has already been passed in the Lok Sabha with 207 votes. Dilip Saikia, the state BJP president and MP from Darrang-Udalguri, endorsed the central government's decision to constitutionally ensure one-third (33%) reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, describing it as a step towards empowering women and advancing the cause of women's strength.
