Assam Assembly Session Set to Begin on May 21 Under CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

CM Sarma visited the memorial of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi at Silpukhuri, Guwahati on Wednesday.
Guwahati, May 13: Following his re-election as Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the new session of the Assam Assembly will kick off on May 21, where the newly elected MLAs will take their oaths.
During a Cabinet meeting, Sarma stated, “Today marks the official start of our government’s work. We will determine the duration of the Assembly session and the agenda to be discussed.”
Sources indicate that the 16th Assam Assembly is expected to convene for three days starting May 21, during which the newly elected representatives will be sworn in.
While visiting the memorial of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, located in Silpukhuri, Guwahati, Sarma, along with four Cabinet members, paid floral tributes and shared the government’s priorities for the upcoming term.
“Before officially commencing our duties, we visited the memorial of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi to seek his blessings for our efforts towards Assam’s security and development,” he remarked.
Sarma emphasized that the government’s primary responsibility is to safeguard Assam and its residents. “It is our duty to protect Assam, its people, and all Indians, and our actions will reflect this commitment,” he stated.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that the new administration would maintain continuity, building upon the initiatives started during the previous term. “This government is not entirely new; it is a continuation of our earlier efforts. The time for speeches has passed; the public now expects tangible results from us,” he asserted.
Sarma was sworn in at a grand ceremony in Guwahati after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a third consecutive term in Assam following a decisive victory in the recent Assembly elections. Alongside Sarma, four MLAs from the BJP and its coalition partners, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), also took their oaths in the presence of prominent leaders.
