Assam Assembly Election Counting Begins Amidst Vigilant Oversight
Counting Process Commences
The counting of votes for the Assam Assembly elections kicked off today at 8 AM. The Congress party is closely monitoring the counting process and is investigating any potential security breaches or issues that may arise on Monday. Gaurav Gogoi, the president of Assam Congress, stated that the party has deployed numerous observers across the state who will remain in contact with the AICC team. Any complaints will be forwarded to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Expectations and Preparations
Gogoi expressed optimism for positive outcomes in Assam based on public feedback. He emphasized that the party will keep a close watch on the election results until the end, monitoring every stage of the process. He added that several observers have been dispatched statewide to identify any weaknesses from the administration and share that information promptly. The party has established a network of observers at various counting centers to monitor any attempts at irregularities.
Ongoing Vigilance
Gogoi noted that this is just the initial phase. The party has gathered information from its workers regarding the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to check for any transportation issues. Monitoring centers have been set up in every district with party representatives present. He mentioned that the party is well-prepared, as this is not a new issue for them; they have previously raised concerns about unsecured EVMs stored in warehouses. Gogoi highlighted that such situations should not occur, and the party's CLP leader has also observed these conditions.
Initial Trends
Early trends indicate that the NDA coalition led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained a significant lead over the Congress-led alliance, with a lead in 82 seats, while the opposition coalition is ahead in 27 seats. These figures emerged after the counting of votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) began at 8:30 AM. In 2016, the Congress-led alliance, which had been in power since 2001, failed to retain control, leading to the BJP, under Himanta Biswa Sarma, taking over. The BJP is now striving to maintain power for the third consecutive term in the state.
