Strengthening Tourism Ties Between Assam and Bhutan


Guwahati, June 22: Tour operators from Assam and Bhutan convened to discuss strategies for enhancing cross-border tourism, particularly focusing on the eastern regions of Bhutan, as stated on Saturday.


The discussions were held during the 15th annual general meeting of the Tour Operators Association of Assam (TOAA), which took place in Samdrup Jongkhar, following an invitation from the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General in Guwahati on Friday.


Approximately 100 members of TOAA participated in the event, which included a productive B2B meeting with Bhutanese tour operators, hoteliers, and tourism officials, according to the TOAA announcement. The primary goal was to foster tourism collaboration with Bhutan, emphasizing its eastern frontier.


On this occasion, a special edition of TOAA's newsletter, 'Tea Break', was launched, showcasing the tourism potential between Assam and Bhutan.


The convention was graced by the Commissioner and Secretary of Assam's Tourism department, the Opposition leader of Bhutan's National Assembly, the Royal Bhutanese Consul General, and representatives from the Samdrup Jongkhar district administration, among others.


Participants praised TOAA's initiatives aimed at cultivating strong relationships with tourism stakeholders and policymakers in Bhutan to promote cross-border tourism.
