Despite the rampant speculation regarding Rohit's retirement, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has refuted these claims. He clarified that there has been no conversation about the Lord's ODI being Rohit's last match. Saikia stated, "There are numerous rumors circulating about Rohit Sharma's future. I want to firmly assert that there has been no discussion regarding him playing his final match at Lord's on Sunday. Rohit remains a key member of the Indian ODI team and will continue to represent the country as long as he is part of the plans. In essence, the Lord's ODI will not be his last match."

At 39 years old, Rohit made his ODI debut against Ireland on June 23, 2007. He has already retired from both T20I and Test formats.
