Ashish Vidyarthi: From Actor to Storyteller and Motivator
The Versatile Journey of Ashish Vidyarthi
What distinguishes an exceptional actor? For many, it’s the capacity to embody diverse roles and adapt to evolving times. Veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi exemplifies this, having appeared in over 300 films across 11 languages. He is currently embracing various roles in life, confidently navigating the age of instant recognition.
In addition to his acting career, Vidyarthi has ventured into vlogging, motivational speaking, and storytelling. I recently met him in Guwahati, a city that holds special significance for him.
Having grown up watching Vidyarthi portray villains in iconic Bollywood films like Droh Kaal (1994), which marked his debut and earned him a national award, and Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), I was delighted to find his vibrant personality and infectious smile.
I had the opportunity to attend Kahanibaaz, his dynamic storytelling session held on January 2, 2026, at Seagull Studio in Guwahati.
A Newfound Passion for Vlogging
During our chat, I inquired about his foray into online content creation. Vidyarthi shared, "It happened by chance. After the first wave of COVID, I picked up a GoPro and found it easy to share my experiences with others. I began traveling and documenting the people I met and the places I visited, which allowed me to break free from my routine."
His content often features humor and warmth, making him relatable both online and offline. In his food vlogs, he explores modest eateries, which likely contributes to his appeal. He remarked, "This morning, I discovered Kopili Restaurant, a nearly 60-year-old establishment in Silpukhuri. People cherish such places, and they connect with my videos. I enjoy finding the extraordinary in the ordinary and embracing life's magic."
Showcasing the Richness of Northeast India
Recently, Vidyarthi has focused on highlighting the Northeast, showcasing its cuisine, culture, and the warmth of its people. Through his videos, he aims to convey to the rest of India that Northeasterners are integral to the nation.
This message is particularly relevant in light of recent racial incidents, such as the tragic death of Angel Chakma in Dehradun. Vidyarthi emphasized, "Understanding diverse ways of living is crucial. When we recognize that there are various lifestyles, thoughts, and traditions, we appreciate the richness of our world. Recent events reflect a troubling lack of awareness about the diversity within our country."
Having grown up in a multicultural environment with a Malayali father and a Bengali mother, Vidyarthi has always been curious about different cultures and their valid ways of life, which he incorporates into his storytelling.
Inspiring Others as a Motivator
Vidyarthi has also been creating motivational content aimed at youth, corporate audiences, and anyone seeking encouragement. When asked about his motivation to inspire others, he explained, "Years ago, while working in South Indian cinema, I pondered the nature of fame and realized I could also be a speaker, helping others find hope in challenging times."
He views himself as an ambassador of hope, sharing his own experiences of failure to help others embrace their journeys. "When you stop feeling embarrassed about your falls, you learn that each setback contributes to your path. I want people to become extraordinary versions of themselves."
Kahanibaaz: A New Chapter in Storytelling
On a chilly January evening, Vidyarthi captivated the audience in Guwahati with his storytelling prowess. He shared tales from his childhood, career, and family, blending humor and emotion that resonated deeply with listeners.
He described Kahanibaaz as the start of his storytelling journey, emphasizing that it reflects the diverse experiences of life. "My stories are universal, relatable to everyone, and filled with laughter because life is incomplete without it."
Upcoming Projects and Future Aspirations
Regarding his future projects, Vidyarthi mentioned, "By March, we should have something on Amazon Prime. Currently, I’m working on a project for Hrithik Roshan's first production, tentatively titled Storm, set to release next year. I’m also involved in several Tamil and Telugu films."
He added, "Every day is filled with activities, whether it’s a motivational session or stand-up comedy. I’ll be touring the US and Canada with my comedy show, Sit Down Ashish, in March, along with Kahanibaaz."
A Deep Affection for Assam
Married to Assamese Rupali Barua, Vidyarthi frequently visits Assam and expresses his admiration for the state. He stated, "The love and warmth I’ve experienced in Assam are touching; the language is beautiful, and the people are even more so. Their kindness and trust are qualities that deserve nurturing."
He cherishes the time spent with family in Assam, enjoying simple conversations that reconnect him to the essence of life. "I appreciate how a joyful life can be led with simplicity, and that’s the message I want to share from this wonderful state."
