Aryan Roopa Anand's Triumph

After a long pursuit of victory, Aryan Roopa Anand finally achieved his goal at the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Invitational Congo, held at the par-73 Golf de Lubumbashi course in Africa. The 25-year-old golfer from Mysore, who aspires to become a global golfing star, secured his first win after a thrilling finish. He ended the tournament tied at 16-under with Udayan Mane, who was aiming for consecutive victories. Following two tied playoff holes, Aryan emerged victorious in the third hole, as stated in a press release.

Impressive Performance

Representing RVR Delhi, Aryan delivered an impressive 8-under 65 round, which included five birdies starting from the 11th hole on the back nine, bringing him to 16-under with three holes remaining. A birdie on the 17th hole pushed him to 17-under, but a bogey on the 18th brought him back to 16-under. Shaurya Binu from Honer Gurugram finished third at 15-under. Udayan Mane, however, made a remarkable comeback by eagling the Par-5 17th and birdieing the 18th, forcing a playoff.

Playoff Drama

In the playoff, Aryan outperformed the seasoned Udayan Mane, a former Olympian and multiple titleholder in India, who had recently won the AM Green IGPL in Joburg, South Africa. After three playoff holes, Aryan's relief was palpable as he celebrated this significant achievement. "This was a huge win and an incredible moment. I played exceptionally well throughout the week and have been consistent for some time," Aryan remarked, having scored 71-67-65 for a total of 16-under over three days.

Aryan's Journey

Born in Mysore to a telecom expert and a homemaker, Aryan began his golfing journey at the JWGC in Mysore at the age of eight, inspired by his father's passion for the sport. Although he initially played tennis, golf became his true calling, leading him to win amateur tournaments early on. He later moved to Bangalore to pursue golf more seriously, training at the Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy and representing India in the National amateur squad. Turning professional in 2023, Aryan has been recognized for his potential and was part of the inaugural IGPL player squad. After several near-misses, he finally secured his first major win in Congo, earning a prize of Rs. 22,50,000.
