Arvind Kejriwal Seeks Passport Renewal Amid Ongoing Liquor Policy Investigation

Kejriwal's Legal Move for Passport Renewal

In connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approached the court on Thursday to request a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the renewal of his passport. Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh issued notices to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), asking them to respond by the next hearing date set for June 4. Kejriwal's attorney informed the court that his passport had expired in 2018, and he has applied for a renewal valid for ten years.

CBI Prepared to Argue on Charges

Meanwhile, the CBI informed the judge that it is ready to present arguments regarding the charges in the alleged liquor policy scam. The investigation into the corruption linked to the now-repealed Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22 is being conducted by the CBI, while the ED is looking into a money laundering case that arose from the CBI's FIR. This FIR was filed following a recommendation by Delhi's Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena to investigate alleged irregularities in the policy's implementation.

Irregularities in Liquor Policy Implementation

According to both the CBI and ED, irregularities occurred during the amendment of the liquor policy, resulting in undue benefits for license holders. The Delhi government implemented this policy on November 17, 2021, but it was scrapped by the end of September 2022 amid corruption allegations.
