Kejriwal's Campaign Against E20 Petrol
Saturday marks a significant day for the protest against E20 petrol, as AAP's convenor Arvind Kejriwal is set to kick off a national campaign. Activist Tahseen Poonawalla will intensify his movement through a silent march and hunger strike. Just before launching his national campaign against the central government's E20 (20% ethanol-blended petrol) initiative, Kejriwal hinted on Friday that a well-known figure would join the movement. This announcement came as Poonawalla, who organized the first ground protest regarding ethanol blending on July 5, declared plans to march to Gandhi Smriti and commence a hunger strike. Kejriwal posted on X on Friday that a prominent personality would join him at the 'National Town Hall Against E20' on August 1 to listen to public grievances and make a decision regarding E20. He encouraged everyone to share their thoughts.
He also provided a WhatsApp number for those interested in joining virtually.
During a press conference at the AAP headquarters on July 27, Kejriwal linked his campaign against the E20 policy to the recent 'Cockroach Public Party' (CJP) movement, which led to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He stated on July 27 that the youth of the country forced an arrogant government to bend, resulting in Pradhan's resignation. Kejriwal urged the Prime Minister to address the E20-blended petrol issue, highlighting the serious problems faced by the public, including vehicle malfunctions and reduced fuel mileage. He called for immediate action before the situation escalates further.
Kejriwal announced that the event at the Constitution Club in New Delhi would commence at noon on Saturday, urging attendees to arrive by 11:30 AM. He expressed hope that thousands would participate. Those residing in and around Delhi are encouraged to attend in person, while those outside the city can join online. AAP stated that individuals wishing to participate virtually can send a WhatsApp message to 8588833212 to receive a joining link. The CJP protest concluded after their three main demands, including Pradhan's resignation, were met, but the central government's ethanol-blended petrol (EBP) program has now become a new point of contention.
