On Wednesday, Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), expressed strong confidence in the party's performance in the upcoming elections in Punjab. He stated that the party is poised to break its own records, driven by a wave of support from the public. During his visit to the state, Kejriwal spoke to the media, attributing the positive sentiment among the populace to the developmental initiatives undertaken by the government led by Bhagwant Mann.

Meetings and Campaign Strategies

Kejriwal mentioned that he is on a two-day tour of Punjab, where he plans to hold several meetings with the party's leadership regarding the elections. He expressed his belief that AAP will surpass its previous achievements in the upcoming polls, highlighting the favorable atmosphere surrounding the AAP government. He emphasized that the public is recognizing the impact of welfare schemes that were previously overlooked by other political parties.

Achievements and Opposition Critique

The AAP leader pointed out that citizens are discussing the government's initiatives, such as free electricity, insurance coverage of ₹10 lakh, and the construction of sports facilities. He claimed that no other government has accomplished as much. Kejriwal criticized the opposition for lacking a substantial agenda, stating that their only tactic seems to be verbally attacking Mann. He remains confident that AAP will perform well in the forthcoming elections.

Election Schedule Announced

These remarks come after the Punjab State Election Commission announced the schedule for municipal elections across the state, set for May 13. This marks the beginning of the electoral process, which is expected to conclude by May 31, 2026. According to an official notification issued under Section 35 of the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994, a detailed timeline for filing nominations, voting, and counting has been established. The nomination process will commence on May 13, 2026, and continue until May 16, with scrutiny of nominations on May 18 and the last date for withdrawal set for May 19. If necessary, voting will take place on May 26, followed by counting on May 29, aiming for the entire electoral process to be completed by June 1, 2026.
