Arunachal Pradesh Government Implements Cost-Cutting Measures for Sustainable Governance
New Initiatives for Administrative Efficiency
The Arunachal Pradesh government has introduced a series of cost-reduction and efficiency measures aimed at minimizing expenses, enhancing administrative operations, and promoting sustainable governance practices across all departments. According to an official announcement, these new measures include a complete ban on foreign travel for ministers and government officials for the next year. Additionally, to facilitate fuel savings and streamline official transportation, the number of members in the convoys of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and other ministers will be reduced by up to 50 percent.
Virtual Meetings and Travel Regulations
The government has also adopted a 'virtual first' policy for official meetings. For any unavoidable official travel, tickets must now be booked at least 15 days in advance, while plans for Leave Travel Concession (LTC) trips should be made a minimum of 45 days ahead. Taking a step towards digital governance, the state has mandated the complete implementation of e-office systems or paperless operations in subordinate offices, circle offices, and SDO headquarters by March 2027.
Encouraging Sustainable Practices
The guidelines encourage officials, students from schools and colleges, and government employees to utilize carpooling and public transport wherever feasible to reduce traffic congestion and fuel consumption. At the administrative level, the purchase of new vehicles has been restricted, with exemptions only for emergency service needs. The use of air conditioning has also been rationalized, with directives to maintain temperatures at 24°C or higher to optimize electricity consumption.
Resource Optimization and Local Support
As part of resource optimization efforts, the government has advised minimizing the use of cooking oil in government schools, colleges, hospitals, and canteens. In the agricultural sector, the government is promoting certified organic farming practices to enhance agricultural and horticultural activities. Furthermore, all government purchases of electronic devices must comply with a 5-star energy efficiency rating to reduce electricity usage. Supporting local industries, the state is also promoting the 'Buy Indigenous, Buy Local' initiative to strengthen domestic production and empower local communities.
