Arunachal Pradesh Faces Devastating Flash Floods: What You Need to Know
Severe Flooding Hits Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar: Continuous rainfall led to flash floods in the Keyi Panyor district of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday morning, submerging low-lying regions and damaging 18 homes. Landslides on a national highway also hindered traffic and left many individuals stranded, according to an official report.
Three individuals are reportedly missing due to the flooding at the Neepco project colony near Poosa in the Yazali circle, as stated by Dani Sulu, the state disaster management secretary.
The heavy rains caused an under-construction retaining wall to collapse, resulting in significant flooding in residential areas surrounding the colony.
"At least 18 homes have been affected, and three individuals are unaccounted for," Sulu confirmed.
Local authorities have instructed the additional deputy commissioner, deputy superintendent of police, and circle officer to assess the situation and coordinate rescue efforts.
"A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been dispatched, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been notified and is en route to assist with relief operations," Sulu added.
All available personnel and vehicles within the Yazali jurisdiction have been mobilized, and ex-servicemen have been called upon to aid in emergency response.
As a precaution, the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (Neepco) has begun releasing water from the Ranganadi dam, while power generation at the facility has been temporarily halted.
The torrential rains have also disrupted road access in the district, with three sections of the highway near Potin and Hoj blocked by landslides, leaving numerous individuals stranded.
Resources and machinery are being deployed for rescue and restoration efforts, and the highway contractor has been instructed to clear debris to restore traffic flow as soon as possible.
Search and assessment operations are ongoing in the affected areas, with the full extent of the damage still being evaluated, Sulu noted.
Arunachal Pradesh has been facing heavy rainfall for several days, leading to landslides, flash floods, and infrastructure damage across multiple districts.
Disaster management officials have advised residents in vulnerable areas and along riverbanks to stay vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.
