Tragic Death of Jerry Gogosian

Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, known in the art community as Jerry Gogosian, has tragically passed away at the age of 40. Authorities in Brazil have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Reports indicate that Helphenstein was discovered unresponsive in her hotel room at the Rosewood São Paulo, a luxury establishment located in the Bela Vista area of the city, on Sunday.

According to Brazilian media, Helphenstein had been in São Paulo for approximately three weeks for a cosmetic procedure. A plastic surgeon, unable to reach her, visited the hotel to check on her, prompting hotel staff to enter her room where they found her unconscious. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed by officials.

A representative from the Rosewood São Paulo confirmed her passing in a statement to an arts publication, emphasizing the hotel's cooperation with authorities during the investigation. They expressed their commitment to respecting the privacy of Helphenstein and her family while refraining from further comments.

While the city of São Paulo's spokesperson acknowledged the ongoing police investigation into the death of a 40-year-old woman, they did not disclose Helphenstein's name or additional details.

Helphenstein created the anonymous Instagram account Jerry Gogosian in 2018 during her recovery from an illness, quickly gaining recognition in contemporary art circles for her satirical content and industry insights, amassing nearly 150,000 followers. Her identity remained a secret until it was revealed by a columnist in 2020.

In an interview, she expressed her ambition to be "the female Anthony Bourdain of the art world." Beyond her online presence, she curated an exhibition in 2022 and hosted a podcast, while also pursuing an MBA at New York University. The investigation into her death is still ongoing, with no further updates from the police.
