Key Developments in Journalist Attack Case


Tezpur, July 8: A collaborative operation by the police forces of Tezpur and Gosaigaon led to the capture of Dilip Nath, the main suspect in the attack on a journalist that occurred in the Panchnoi region on June 29. His arrest took place early Monday morning in a secluded area along the Assam-West Bengal border.


According to sources, Dilip Nath had been evading authorities for a week, frequently changing his location, including a stint in Nepal.


He reportedly returned to West Bengal on Sunday evening with intentions to escape abroad, as per the information provided by sources.


In connection with this case, police have also detained Dilip Nath's son, Kapil Nath, along with three others: Prashanta Nath, Pankaj Nath, and Aniram Basumatary.


Dilip Nath faces multiple charges across various police stations in the state, including involvement in illegal timber operations within the Sonai Rupai wildlife sanctuary, unauthorized mining in the Panchnoi riverbed, running an illegal furniture business, extortion under the guise of RTI requests, and defaming women on social media.


In a statement to this correspondent, Sonitpur Superintendent of Police Varun Purakayastha confirmed that Dilip Nath was presented before the Gosaigaon Sub-Judicial Magistrate (SJM) court on Monday.
