Arrest of Suspect in Jeypore Rape Case


Jeypore: Authorities have apprehended a young man who had been evading capture following the rape of a minor girl in 2024, as reported by Jeypore Mahila police on Saturday.


The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Guru Machha from Gurudipai village within the Boipariguda police jurisdiction in Koraput district, was taken into custody.


After being presented in court, his bail request was denied, leading to his remand in judicial custody, according to Mahila Police IIC Ashrita Xalco.


The crime took place during a visit to his uncle's residence in October 2024.


On October 29, while the girl was at the riverbank for a personal need, Guru attacked her, and when she screamed for help, he physically assaulted her.


Following the incident, the girl's mother filed a complaint at the Jeypore Mahila Police Station.


Since that time, the accused had been on the run.
