Saharanpur, June 25: Mohammad Sohail, a resident of Gangoh in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, has been apprehended in Karnataka. He is suspected of plotting an attack on the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, following a coordinated operation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).
The arrest was made in connection with an alleged conspiracy targeting the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.
Authorities have been monitoring Sohail for an extended period, during which they uncovered information linking him to various dubious organizations and individuals.
Sohail was taken into custody in the Davanagere area of Karnataka, where he had been working as a painter while allegedly hiding his true identity.
Investigators have retrieved significant evidence from him and his electronic devices. Reports indicate that images of Sohail with firearms have emerged, and these, along with other digital materials, are currently being analyzed for forensic evidence.
Initial inquiries are also exploring his potential connections to Pakistan. Security forces are working to identify his contacts and ascertain if he is part of a broader network.
Investigators suspect that he was involved with several questionable online groups and social media platforms.
The operation was reportedly initiated based on intelligence received by the NIA, which suggests that Sohail may have been part of a conspiracy against the Ram Mandir. However, a thorough investigation is ongoing, examining various facets of the case.
Additionally, a separate investigation into Sohail's connections and activities in Uttar Pradesh has commenced.
Security agencies are compiling information regarding his potential network, associates, and financial dealings in Saharanpur and surrounding districts.
Officials have stated that a detailed investigation into all elements of the case is underway, and the full scope of the alleged conspiracy will be clarified once the investigation concludes.
