Army Truck Accident on Kolkata Flyover Injures Two Soldiers
Incident Overview
On February 24, in Kolkata, two soldiers were injured when an Army truck overturned on the rain-slicked Maa flyover, as reported by local authorities on Tuesday. The truck reportedly lost control and veered into the opposite lane.
According to police, the vehicle collided with the railing after crossing into the wrong lane and subsequently overturned. There were three soldiers aboard, with two sustaining injuries. Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene to rescue the soldiers, who were then transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Sources from Kolkata Traffic Police indicated that while the truck was en route from Science City to Park Circus, it unexpectedly lost control and crossed the divider into oncoming traffic. The city has been experiencing light to moderate rainfall since early morning, leading to wet and slippery road conditions. It is believed that the driver may have lost control due to these hazardous conditions.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Alipore reported that rain began in Kolkata and surrounding areas around 4 a.m. Authorities are currently investigating whether the accident was solely due to the wet road or if another vehicle was involved.
The Army is also conducting its own investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the truck was traveling at a high speed before the accident, resulting in significant damage to its front.
While accidents involving motorcycles on the Maa flyover are not uncommon, this incident involving a heavy Army vehicle has garnered considerable attention.
Traffic on the flyover was temporarily disrupted, affecting adjacent roadways as well. Traffic police later cleared the scene, restoring normal traffic flow on the flyover.
