Army Soldier Arrested in Major Drug Bust in Mandi District

Mandi: In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, law enforcement officials have apprehended a 30-year-old soldier from the Mandi district, seizing 23 grams of chitta (heroin) in the process. The individual’s father previously served as an Assistant Sub-Inspector with the Himachal Pradesh Police.

The suspect, named Satish Kumar, hails from Tanehar village in Dharampur. He was stopped late Thursday night by a combined team from Jogindernagar and Padhar police while driving his Seltos car during a checkpoint operation on the Mandi–Pathankot National Highway near Padhar.

Authorities disclosed that Satish Kumar had been monitored due to suspicions regarding his involvement in drug distribution within the Jogindernagar area. Following intelligence reports, his vehicle was searched, resulting in the discovery of 23 grams of heroin. He was promptly arrested and taken to Padhar Police Station, where a First Information Report (FIR) was filed under the NDPS Act.

Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect would appear in court on Friday. Additional SP Abhimanyu Verma remarked that the accused exhibited signs of nervousness during questioning, which led to the search that uncovered the illegal substance.

Investigations are currently underway to trace the origin of the heroin and to identify the broader network involved in its distribution. Police have indicated that additional arrests may occur as they continue to uncover connections related to this case.
