Armed Robbery at Retired Police Inspector's Home in Kanpur

Incident Overview

In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, an alarming incident occurred on Monday when three masked and armed assailants broke into the residence of a retired police inspector. They took the inspector's daughter-in-law and her minor son hostage, stealing cash and jewelry before fleeing the scene, according to police reports. The incident transpired during the afternoon while Rachna Tripathi, aged 45, and her 17-year-old son Devansh were alone at home.

Details of the Attack

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Satyajit Gupta, the intruders restrained both victims by covering their mouths and tying their hands, subsequently locking them in the kitchen. The robbers spent approximately 45 minutes ransacking the house. Gupta noted that they forced the woman to remove her jewelry and made off with gold and silver ornaments, around ₹1.5 lakh in cash, and other valuables.

Rescue and Investigation

The victims were freed when a domestic helper arrived and opened the kitchen door, after which they reported the incident to the police. Gupta mentioned that the assailants arrived on a white motorcycle. Authorities are currently reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the culprits and are investigating how they gained entry into the home. Forensic teams and senior police officials have examined the crime scene for fingerprints and other evidence. The DCP also reported that Devansh sustained minor injuries, but there were no signs of serious assault during the initial investigation.

Value of Stolen Goods

The family claims that approximately ₹10 lakh worth of jewelry and ₹1.5 lakh in cash were stolen, while police estimates suggest the value of the stolen items is around ₹8 lakh. The investigation is underway, and multiple teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the suspects.
