Arjun Rampal Discusses His Role in Punjab 95 Amid Censorship Challenges
Arjun Rampal's Career Highlights with Punjab 95
Arjun Rampal is currently experiencing a significant peak in his acting career. His portrayal of a CBI officer investigating the case of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra in Honey Trehan's film, Punjab 95, is being hailed as his finest performance to date.
Expressing his frustration, Arjun remarked, "Can you believe our film is facing 127 cuts from the censor board? How can a film endure such extensive editing? It addresses the fundamental human right to live and highlights the inhumane collateral damage caused by unchecked governmental power. We are at a loss for what to do next."
When asked about the possibility of salvaging the film, he mentioned, "We are screening it for select critics and influential figures, hoping their support will lend the film the credibility it deserves."
Arjun is deeply moved by the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra. "Hearing about his plight broke my heart. He dedicated his life to uncovering the fate of those who vanished during anti-militancy operations. What did he achieve? Such selflessness seems rare in today's self-centered world," he reflected.
In preparation for his role, Arjun met with Khalra's family. "His wife continues to fight for justice for families who lost their providers during these operations. Thankfully, his children are doing well now," he shared.
He considers Punjab 95 to be his most cherished project. "This is the film that will define my legacy. I want my son to see it when he’s old enough. Before that, I hope audiences will recognize this important narrative. Did you know there’s a high school in the UK named after Jaswant Singh Khalra? We owe it to his memory to tell his story."
