Investigation into Train Fires

New Delhi: An internal inquiry has suggested that the rise in fire incidents within train coaches may be linked to anti-social behavior, as reported by officials from the railway ministry.

A senior official from the railway department stated on Friday that initial investigations into recent fire occurrences on various trains point towards the involvement of anti-social elements, along with reckless actions by passengers.

On the same day, a fire incident was reported in the toilet of the D-5 coach of train number 17642, the Narkhed-Kachiguda Express, at Hingoli station. This train operates under the Nanded Division.

Following the alert about the fire, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and operational staff acted swiftly, using fire extinguishers to control the blaze and prevent a potential disaster.

The preliminary investigation suggests possible foul play and the involvement of anti-social elements.

In another case, the sudden alarm triggered by the Fire and Smoke Detection System (FSDS) on train number 18207, the Durg-Ajmer Express, was traced back to burnt pieces of 'beedi' (hand-rolled cigarettes) found in one of the coach toilets.

According to the onboard housekeeping staff, these burnt beedi remnants were located in the toilet of the M-1 coach.

Officials emphasized that these incidents are being taken very seriously, and a comprehensive investigation is currently in progress. The quick response from railway personnel ensured passenger safety and effectively managed the situation.

Passengers are urged to stay vigilant, avoid smoking on trains, refrain from carrying flammable items, and report any suspicious activities to railway authorities or via the Rail Madad helpline at 139.
