Anurag Kumar Takes Charge as Delhi Police Commissioner

Senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police. A member of the 1994 batch, Kumar was serving as the Special Director at the Intelligence Bureau (IB) prior to this significant role. His appointment comes after Satish Golcha was removed from the position ahead of his scheduled retirement. The Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed that the competent authority has approved Kumar's appointment. According to an official notification, he will assume the responsibilities of the Commissioner of Delhi Police from the date of taking office and will remain in this position until further notice. 


Satish Golcha Removed Before Term Completion

The order from the MHA also stated that Satish Golcha, a 1992 batch IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre, will report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next posting after Anurag Kumar formally takes over. Reports indicate that Golcha was expected to serve as the Commissioner until 2027, but he has been removed from the position before completing his term. 


Background of Anurag Kumar

Anurag Kumar is regarded as one of the senior officials with extensive experience in both policing and intelligence. Before joining the Intelligence Bureau, he held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in various districts of Delhi, where he was responsible for maintaining law and order in the national capital. A graduate in engineering, Kumar transitioned to the Intelligence Bureau, where he undertook several critical tasks related to internal security and intelligence operations. For his services, he was awarded the 'Police Medal for Meritorious Service' in 2010 and the 'President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service' in 2016. His appointment as Delhi Police Commissioner is seen as part of a significant administrative reshuffle, recognizing his expertise in strategic planning and high-level security matters.
