Sutherland Reclaims No.1 Spot

Dubai, Jan 6: Annabel Sutherland has made headlines by regaining the top position in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings. This achievement follows India's narrow 15-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final match of their T20I series.

The Australian bowler has now tied with India's Deepti Sharma, both holding a rating of 736. This is the same rating Sutherland achieved when she first ascended to the No.1 position in August 2025.

Previously, Sutherland reached the pinnacle of the rankings after Pakistan's Sadia Iqbal fell behind. Despite Deepti's bowling figures of 1/28, she could not maintain her lead and now ranks second, just one point shy of Sutherland. Nevertheless, her performance has kept her in third place in the ICC Women’s T20I All-Rounder Rankings with 382 points.

In addition, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur has made significant strides, moving up two spots to 13th in the ICC Women’s T20I Batting Rankings. Her rise is attributed to a match-winning performance where she scored 68 runs off 43 balls in the final T20I at Thiruvananthapuram, earning her the Player of the Match title and bringing her closer to the top 10.

India's clean sweep of the series also resulted in other players improving their rankings. Amanjot Kaur jumped seven places to a tie for 78th, while Sri Lankan batters Hasini Perera and Imesha Dulani made notable gains after scoring half-centuries. Perera climbed 31 spots to 40th with her 65 runs off 42 balls, while Dulani surged 77 places to 84th after her 50 runs off 39 balls, which included eight fours. Their contributions were crucial in stabilizing Sri Lanka’s innings after the early loss of Chamari Athapaththu.

In the bowling rankings, India’s left-arm spinner Shree Charani moved up five places to 47th, while Sri Lanka’s Kavisha Dilhari advanced one spot to 32nd, and Chamari Athapaththu improved by three places to 48th.

Additionally, India’s Arundhati Reddy showcased her skills with a quickfire 27 not out from just 11 balls and took a wicket, resulting in a significant jump of 21 places to 44th in the bowling rankings.
