Anil Kumble's Strategic Tips for Varun Chakravarthy Ahead of T20 World Cup Semi-Final
Kumble's Insights for Chakravarthy
Anil Kumble, the renowned former Indian cricketer, has provided valuable advice to Varun Chakravarthy, India's enigmatic spinner. He recommends that Chakravarthy should focus on delivering the ball away from right-handed batsmen before attempting to bring it back in, a strategy Kumble believes could enhance its effectiveness. These comments were made in anticipation of India's crucial semi-final match against England at the historic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
"Perhaps analysts could examine how often he aims to move the ball away from right-handers. I haven't observed that frequently. This could be a tactic he might explore. When he brings the ball back into the right-hander, it becomes significantly more threatening," Kumble stated, as reported by a sports news outlet.
Kumble also noted that batters often struggle to read Chakravarthy's deliveries, as they seem to anticipate the ball coming into them. "While batters may not consistently identify his deliveries, they appear to be expecting the ball to come in, which affects their approach. He might benefit from varying his deliveries, occasionally moving the ball away from the right-hander before bringing it back in," Kumble added.
Chakravarthy's Performance in the World Cup
In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Chakravarthy stands out as India's leading wicket-taker. Across seven matches, he has claimed 12 wickets, boasting an impressive average of 15.33.
The defending champions secured their place in the semi-finals after a victory over the West Indies in the Super 8 stage at Eden Gardens. Sanju Samson played a pivotal role in this win, scoring an explosive 97 runs off 50 balls, which included 12 fours and four sixes, leading India to a five-wicket triumph.
