Anil Kumble Celebrates 36 Years Since His International Cricket Debut

Reflecting on a Remarkable Journey

Anil Kumble, the legendary Indian spinner, took to social media to commemorate the 36th anniversary of his international debut, expressing heartfelt gratitude for what he describes as a "truly special journey." Kumble first represented India against England in Manchester on this day in 1990. In his debut match, he achieved remarkable success, claiming three wickets with figures of 3/105 over a 43-over spell, with Allan Lamb being his inaugural international wicket.

Kumble's Career Achievements

Throughout his illustrious career, Kumble amassed a total of 619 Test wickets, making him the highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. He also secured 337 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs), solidifying his status as India's leading wicket-taker across all formats. His overall international tally stands at 953 wickets, the highest among Indian bowlers. When including his contributions to Asia XI, his total reaches 956 wickets, ranking him fourth among all bowlers globally.

In addition to his bowling prowess, Kumble contributed with the bat, scoring 2,506 runs in 132 Tests at an average of 17.77, which includes one century and five half-centuries.

The Historic 'Perfect Ten'

In a historic moment during a Test match against Pakistan in 1999, Kumble achieved the remarkable feat of taking all ten wickets in a single innings, becoming only the second player in cricket history to do so, following Jim Laker.

Coaching and Hall of Fame Recognition

Kumble also had a brief coaching tenure with the Indian cricket team from 2016 to 2017, during which India secured Test series victories against teams like the West Indies, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, and Australia. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2015.
