Protests Planned Against Opposition Parties
On April 24, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted a teleconference with NDA legislators, MPs, and ministers to outline plans for protests against the opposition parties' actions that allegedly obstructed the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament. He condemned the injustice faced by women due to these parties and called for statewide demonstrations. The teleconference included BJP state president Madhav and Minister N. Manohar.
NDA Accuses Opposition of Blocking Legislation
NDA coalition leaders accused the India Block, which includes Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and DMK, of preventing the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill, labeling it as an injustice to women. The NDA urged voters to be aware of the opposition's stance on the bill. According to an NDA statement, protests and awareness campaigns will be launched, along with meetings and seminars titled 'Women Power' at the state and district levels to emphasize the coalition's position.
Coordination of Protests by NDA Allies
Leaders from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Jana Sena, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been tasked with coordinating these events, with protests expected to occur at the state, district, and mandal levels before the end of the month. The NDA's statement reminded that Congress had previously attempted to block the Women's Reservation Bill during its parliamentary tenure. It noted that while the BJP supported the bill in the Rajya Sabha during Congress-led governments, it was never presented in the Lok Sabha.
NDA Defends Women's Reservation Bill Amidst Opposition
In light of recent developments, the NDA claimed that parties within the India Block are opposing the Women's Reservation Bill introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, citing delimitation as a reason. The statement further asserted that the proposed delimitation process aimed at increasing the number of parliamentary seats would not disadvantage southern states, referencing assurances from Union Home Minister Amit Shah that concerns from states would be addressed and amendments considered if necessary.
