Historic Achievement in Highway Infrastructure

Amaravati, January 7: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully set two Guinness World Records in Andhra Pradesh during the construction of the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Expressway.

This significant milestone was announced by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who expressed pride in this achievement for both India and the state.

According to CM Naidu, NHAI, in collaboration with M/s Rajpath Infracon Pvt. Ltd., accomplished the remarkable feat of laying 28.95 lane-kilometers and 10,675 MT of Bituminous Concrete continuously within a 24-hour period on the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G). This was shared on the social media platform 'X'.

He noted that this outstanding accomplishment showcases the Government of India's vision, the ongoing commitment to developing world-class highway infrastructure under the leadership of Nitin Gadkari, and the dedication of engineers and workers who adhered to strict NHAI quality standards.

CM Naidu extended his best wishes to the team as they aim to set two additional Guinness World Records by January 11, 2026, for Packages 2 and 3 of this significant corridor in Andhra Pradesh, stating, 'India builds. Andhra Pradesh delivers.'

The construction of the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada greenfield national highway has recently accelerated, promising to enhance connectivity between Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru.

This six-lane, access-controlled expressway is designed to cut travel time between Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, and Bengaluru from the current 11-12 hours to approximately six hours.

The expressway will pass through the districts of Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool, and Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh before entering Karnataka.

Part of the Bharatmala phase-II initiative, the expressway includes both greenfield and brownfield sections, avoiding congested towns and existing highways to facilitate quicker and uninterrupted transport of passengers and goods.

The total length of the expressway is projected to be between 518-624 km, incorporating both greenfield and brownfield segments, with an estimated construction cost of around Rs 19,200-Rs 19,320 crore.

The greenfield section covers approximately 342 km from Kodikonda to Addanki/Muppavaram, while the brownfield upgrades consist of Bengaluru-Kodikonda (73 km on NH-44) and Addanki-Vijayawada (113 km on NH-16).
