Amit Shah's Upcoming Visit to Chhattisgarh

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Chhattisgarh for two days starting Sunday to evaluate the security situation in the Bastar region, which has been affected by left-wing extremism. During his visit, Shah will lay the foundation stones for several central institutions in Naya Raipur and inaugurate new campuses for the National Forensic Science University and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory.

In the evening, he will lead a high-level security review meeting with Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, senior state officials, and top security personnel, focusing on anti-Naxal operations.

Review of Development Initiatives

On June 23, Shah plans to visit Narayanpur in South Bastar to meet with security forces and local villagers to review development initiatives. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, who oversees the Home Department, mentioned that Shah might also visit a security camp in Bastar. Chief Minister Sai held a meeting on Friday to review preparations for Shah's visit, describing it as a symbol of 'new energy and confidence' for Chhattisgarh, emphasizing coordinated efforts to combat extremism and promote inclusive development.

Impact of Recent Developments

Since the BJP returned to power in November 2023, 427 Maoists, including several top cadres, have been killed in Chhattisgarh. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has referred to Shah's upcoming visit as a 'symbol of new energy and confidence' for the state. Deputy Chief Minister Sharma informed reporters that the state government has allocated 40 acres of land in Naya Raipur for the National Forensic Science University, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of around ₹400 crores by the central government. Additionally, the state forensic laboratory will be established on six to seven acres of land near the NFSU.
