Major Initiative Against Drug Trafficking

The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, has announced a significant roadmap aimed at eradicating drug trafficking across the nation. During the ninth high-level meeting of the 'Narco-Coordination Centre' (NCORD) held on Friday, he revealed that a comprehensive campaign will be launched nationwide starting March 31, lasting for three years.


Shah made this announcement while addressing the ninth high-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre. According to a government release, this meeting, organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a 'hybrid mode', included key stakeholders from various ministries and departments of the central government, as well as representatives from state governments. On this occasion, the Home Minister also inaugurated the NCB office in Amritsar.

Shah instructed all departments to devise a strategy to tackle the drug problem by March 31, establish a monitoring mechanism, and focus entirely on this issue. He stated, 'Our goal is to create a drug-free India over the next three years and to protect the youth of our country from the dangers of narcotics. Continuous awareness in this battle against addiction is crucial for our safety. We aim to establish a sustainable system capable of fighting this battle.'


He emphasized the vital role of forensic science laboratories in the fight against drugs. Shah remarked, 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal for India to be the leader in every field by the centenary of independence in 2047. It is our responsibility to protect the younger generation from falling prey to narcotics in order to build such an India.'
